Nicola Vague

I came to the founding of Evolving Leaders through an evolution of my own, an evolution that has included a successful career in the corporate sector for over 25 years, ongoing personal development and one or two personal challenges.

During my career I have worked with senior leaders in large organisations across both the private and public sectors, my focus being on organisational development and change. Over time I became a student of leadership, always seeking to answer two questions:

– ‘What does it take for a leader to become an effective agent of change?’

– ‘What style of leadership best supports a flourishing, human organisation in which the pursuit of profitability is balanced by a sense of greater purpose?’

I have grown to understand that the answer to both these questions is essentially the same: that successful leadership isn’t about any particular style. It is rather about understanding that becoming a leader is not a destination – it is just another step in a never-ending journey of self-discovery.  Leaders are those who understand that ‘change begins with me’, and so dedicate themselves to life-long discovery and learning.

After a short period as a school music teacher, my personal evolution has included education and practice as a human resources professional and organisational development consultant and facilitator. I have continued to seek ongoing personal development, all the more after I experienced a very challenging decade in my life. This development journey has taken me down the path of art therapy and practical experience with yoga, mindfulness and meditation.

Since the establishment of Evolving Leaders in 2014, I have combined my professional and personal experiences in a mission to create the space and experiences where leaders can reflect, re-connect and re-focus in service of self and people that they serve. 

Evolving Leaders equips leaders to thrive in a complex, ambiguous and uncertain world through leadership developmet and coaching. This enables them to drive the human change that makes cultural change possible, which in turn builds healthy, human organisations – organisations that pursue success, leverage diversity, embrace change and achieve sustainable results.

In my spare time you will find me doing the things that nourish me –  tending the vegi patch, walking in the bush, reading a good book or sharing a meal with the people that I love.
